March Principal's Letter

easter1Dear Parents and Friends of St. Christopher School,

Lent, the forty days leading up to Easter in the Christian Calendar, has traditionally been used as a time to prepare ourselves inwardly to remember and rejoice in God’s love, shown in Jesus’ Passion (his suffering and death) and his Resurrection. The more time we take to reflect and enter into the meaning of the season, the greater will be our joy on Easter morning and the deeper our faith will grow.

Traditionally, Lent has been a time of penitence and fasting…of recognizing our need for God’s forgiveness and seeking to deepen our relationship with him. The important thing is to find something that will help us focus more on God and what he wants for our lives…to listen more deeply…

Many people give up some small luxury e.g. chocolate, or try to have more frugal meals or forego second helpings or try to spend less time watching television or playing video games. The focus is both on learning to do with less for ourselves and making an effort to do some good by spending the money or time on something that will help others.

May this Lent be a time for all of us to reflect on what is good in our lives and invite God to help us put right what is wrong, and remembering just how much He loves us. In keeping with this message, Stations of the Cross will be every Friday at 2:15. Please join us.

Community Service – I’d like to thank everyone for their donations to the Corpus Christi Food Pantry. I’m always amazed at the generosity of our families.  After vacation we will be collecting food items for Ledge Street School in Nashua.  They are looking to replenish their food pantry and we have offered to help.  Each grade will be assigned something different to bring in.  A list of items will be coming home in the Wednesday news.  How wonderful it will be for our students to see the power in helping those less fortunate right in our own community!

Spelling Bee – Erin Davis was our First Place winner at the spelling bee! Dominic Mendoza came in Second Place. How exciting for both students!! Congratulations to everyone who participated this year. Great job!

Recognized for leading the school community in this month’s Morning Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance are: Jenna, Frost, Scarlett Casey and Brayden Labrecque,

Over half of the school year has passed us and we continue to strive for excellence in our academic and spiritual selves. As winter comes to a close and we enter spring, we look forward to continued successes.

Testing: The Diocese has contracted with another company to replace the Terra Nova test.  This new test is called NWEA. NWEA® is a research-based, not-for-profit organization that supports students and educators worldwide by creating assessment solutions that precisely measure growth and proficiency—and provide insights to help tailor instruction. For 40 years, NWEA has developed Pre-K–12 assessments and professional learning offerings to help advance all students along their optimal learning paths. Their tools are trusted by educators in 145 countries and more than half the schools in the US. Testing will happen for grades 2 through 6 the week of April 9 to 13 with make-ups the following week. More information will be shared with parents as we approach the testing dates.

Classroom auction projects are in progress and all I can say is…..WOW!!! I am impressed by the volunteerism and creativity that is given by all. The Auction is being held on March 24th. If you are able to attend, I guarantee you will have fun time! We are always sold out!

Again, thank you for continuing to work with us to provide the very best educational environment we can for our students. We encourage you to contact your students’ teachers to discuss their progress at any time throughout the year. We will continue to raise the standard of excellence at St. Christopher School in order to achieve our goal of being recognized as one of the premier Catholic elementary schools in the state of New Hampshire

Love and prayers,  Cindy
