What is the Healthy St. Chris Program?

Principal Jack Daniels and Director of Advancement Marta Nissen, along with parents Sue Sheehy and Fred Daniels, began to roll out the Healthy St. Chris Program during the 2008-2009 school year. Thanks to many parent volunteers the first year of Healthy St. Chris resulted in physical activity and nutrition classes, Walk NH, health trivia and the first annual Healthy St. Chris Fun Run.

The goals of the Healthy St. Chris Program are to inform and educate families about health, utilize community partnerships for the health and safety of students, and develop programs and policies to support health. The program promotes recommendations such as the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, issued every 5 years by the Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services, provides advice for people two years and older about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases. The 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans represents the very first time the Federal Government has issued physical activity guidelines for Americans. They describe the types and amounts of physical activity that offer substantial health benefits to Americans.

The Healthy St. Chris Program goals for 2010-2011 included a nutrition and physical activity assembly, Cyber bullying lecture for parents, increased school participation at the annual Nashua Telegraph Santa Fund Run, healthy bulletin boards and most notably, the 3rd annual Healthy St. Chris Fun Run. Thanks to parents, Monique Schmitt , Katie Graybill, Karen Bourne, and Jennifer Swabowicz for donating their time this past school year.

The 2011-2012 school year will bring more health related curriculum enrichment, parent assemblies such as Cyberbullying, educational healthy bulletin boards, a chef demonstration by Liz Barbour and the a healthy recipe contest. Look for more information to come!
