All parents and other family members are eligible and encouraged to join the Parents Group. Among the many programs and activities the Parent Group has sponsored are:

Various positions are available on the group – please consider becoming a coordinator of one of the events and taking the lead. It is very helpful to spread the tasks among members. Leaders are needed for Parent’s Night Out and Teacher’s Appreciation. Kim Coumas will be assisting with planning Enrichment Programs.
Mission: The St. Christopher Parent Group works to provide a variety of fun and educational enrichment programs for St. Christopher students, as well as a number of community building and fundraising events for families.
The activities encompass the following areas: enrichment, community events, teacher appreciation and fundraisers. At each event a photographer is requested. The pictures are used to create the bulletin board as you enter the school. Sonya Dahl and Dana Keegan update the board.
Publicity: The A-frames are available for promoting the various Parent Group, school and parish events. Some events will have permanent signs others will display posters. These signs are placed at the dismissal points so that parents and students can be reminded of our events. Flyers are also sent home in the Wednesday envelope.
Enrichment Programs: Various events are scheduled throughout the year and are on the school calendar. Participation is needed by members to serve as photographer and help organize. PBS Night – held on Wednesday October 19th 6:00pm – 8:00 pm Church Hall Food Science Night – There were about 30 attending. The program went well.
Historical Perspectives – held on Tuesday November 8th all school assembly 9:30am Harriet Tubman – The show was excellent. The teachers and students enjoyed the presentation. For next school year in the fall, we hope to present Amelia Earhart.
Catholic School’s week – enrichment program will be author, Mark Binder Feb 2nd at 9:30 am all school assembly Mark Binder will read from his book Stories for Peace Resolving Conflicts Handling Bullies. To preview his work go to http: markbinder.com. He will donate books to the library and have books available for sale.
Enrichment request received from Mrs. Polcari for the 6th grade to attend the Boston Symphony. The cost is $433 to assist with ticket cost and transportation. The parent group approved the request.
Bridget Gigliotti is developing a definition of enrichment programs to go along with the by laws of the group. This will be reviewed at the next meeting.
Fundraisers: Scott and Sharon Soucy serve as coordinators for fundraising activities.
Poinsettia Sale – Sale begins on October 26th Orders need to be in by Nov 30th. The plants will be available for pickup on the day of the Christmas Chorus (Dec 13th & 15th). Deliveries will be made for orders of 5 or more plants upon request. On Nov 22nd (Parent / Teacher Conf) a plant will be on display and orders taken.
Family Game Night – was held on November 8th Due to the surprising weather the event was held in the school entrance. The sales were down from last year. But for those that could attend the evening was enjoyable.
Parent’s Night out is being reviewed for a February fundraiser. A volunteer is needed to head this activity.
Restaurant Nights: These events are eat in or take out and help support our enrichment programs. We try to plan one event per month. These events have become very successful and contribute to our funds.
Jeannotte’s – has offered to host monthly. Nov 16th, Jan 18th, Feb 15th, April 18th & May 16th are planned. Jeni – organizes and has created the menu/order form. Sub pickup will be at 3pm in the foyer. Please contact Jeni if you are able to assist with these events. Sonia will assist with tallying the orders.
Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast – Saturday Nov 19th 8 – 10 am This event requires many volunteers. We are the servers for the breakfast. Applebee’s provides the food and the Parent Group does the rest. Sign up sheet reviewed and passed to Ellen. Ellen has organized a table craft for the children – turkey stickers and pin. Thanks for the donation, Ellen!
Longhorn Steakhouse – Tuesday January 24th All day At this time the South Nashua location is participating and offering to give 10% back. The Amherst Street location is also being asked to host on the same evening.
Villa Banca – plans are being made for Feb 21st or 23rd
Georgio’s is planned for April 20th – they provide 20% back
Outback is being reviewed for a possible restaurant night
Ongoing: DW Pizza in Merrimack (located near the YMCA) – 10% of the bill will be donated to St. Chris whenever someone mentions St. Christopher School. They will donate on a monthly basis.
Finances: Paula reviewed the financial report. She has provided a summary for the past 5 years of the events. She discussed the opportunity for the teachers to request funds from the group for in class or field trip enrichments. It is the group’s wish that each grade receive funds from the Parent Group to support activities. Sue Sheehy will discuss further with the teachers and ask for their requests. For planning purposes, the teacher requests should be received by the return from Christmas vacation.
Teacher Appreciation: Our group is in need of a co-leader to organize the events.
Before/After School – The Parent Group provides goodies and drinks for the teachers and staff that cover the before and after school program. There can be either one or two providing for each day selected. It may work well to split AM and PM. The dates are flexible, but we try to hit various days of the week. Before school teachers are: Mrs. Walley, Ms. Thompson and Mrs. Sheehan. After school teachers are: Mrs. Sheehan, Mrs. Ternan, Mrs. Langenfeld, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Riley (varies dependent on day of week). Parent / Teacher Conference Night – Nov 22nd The Parent Group provides a light supper for the teachers during the conference night. Volunteer list for food and supplies was reviewed. Valentino’s will provide finger sandwiches.
Teacher Christmas Luncheon - Friday Dec 9th Paula Maclellan and Dana Keegan are organizing. Soup, salads and desserts are being planned. Dana has sent a request for food using the website www.signupgenius.com. She has sent an email link with the full site information.
