Welcome 2012!!
A new year begins and we are ready to learn many fun and exciting things. In Religion we will be learning about God’s laws, His gift of free will, the Sacrament of forgiveness and the steps to receive Penance and Reconciliation. We will continue to work on our two digit addition skills with regrouping and also begin subtracting two digit addends with and without regrouping in math. English we’ll be focusing on helping verbs, verbs and adverbs. In Phonics, we will be associating the number of vowels sounds with the number of syllables in words, Identifying words with one, two, or three syllables, we’ll be learning the sounds of wr and kn, we will listen to, say and write words with consonant blends, and digraphs.
We will also be learning in Social Studies about Martin Luther King Jr. I’ll be reading books about M.L.K, we will listen to and talk about his I Have a Dream speech and talk about the importance of treating all people with respect and kindness.
Lastly, we are beginning our journey into the world of cursive writing, and the children can’t be more excited! This truly is one of the things the children really look forward to in Second Grade. We will first learn to write the basic strokes, the undercurve, downcurve, overcurve, and slant and then slowly learn each letter of the alphabet and then connect letters to make words.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year!
