I have been teaching at St. Christopher School for 13 wonderful years.  Before arriving at St. Chris, I taught at St. Patrick School in Lowell and St. Joseph School in Somerville.  I graduated from Emmanuel College, Boston with a degree in Psychology.  I have 2 darling daughters who are teaching the very youngest learners in Massachusetts.  I love Cape Cod, sunflowers and the Red Sox.

December News

cute-snowmanIn December, the students in 2-W applied for special “Holiday Passports” which allowed us to travel the world! We read about many different countries and winter celebrations. We visited Holland, Mexico, France, Italy, and Sweden. We read about the customs and traditions in those countries and then wrote a composition about our own special Christmas celebrations. We learned about Hanukkah, potato latkes, and driedels as well as Kwanza which is an American festival based upon the celebration of seven beliefs. In math, we are adding 2 and 3 digit numbers with regrouping. We have started “speed math” too. The children are timed 5 minutes and race to complete 50 math facts problems. What fun! Happy winter!

November News

November is a time to reflect on all of God’s gifts. I am thankful for the 15 wonderful, hard-working, and enthusiastic students in 2-W!

This month we made handprint turkey magnets for our Meals on Wheels friends. We will be sending along another craft in January.

We are learning about common nouns, proper nouns, abbreviations and initials. We are associating letters and sounds for constant blends and diagraphs.

We read Arthur’s Thanksgiving by Marc Brown and Tomie de Paola’s The Popcorn Book. Did you know that today, Americans use 500,000,000 pounds of popcorn each year? Also, people in the Midwest buy more popcorn than in any other part of the US.

We are practicing writing math number sentences to match word problems.

Our Thanksgiving breakfast was a success. The children enjoyed eating corn Chex and corn muffins. Thank you for your kind donations.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season!

October News

Welcome October! Grade Two had a busy first month of school. We learned about the Holy Family and the Blessed Trinity. We are reading about the Seven Sacraments and the special words and actions for each. In phonics, we reviewed short vowel sounds as well as beginning, middle and ending consonants. We are practicing fact families which are efficient tools to recall basic addition and subtraction facts. We celebrated Johnny Appleseed's birthday by making a flap book with facts about the seasons of an apple tree. The class enjoyed hearing about one of nature's secrets - the little red house with no windows and doors with a star inside.

Happy Fall!
