Home Students Classroom Pages Grade 3 - Mrs. Goltsov September News in 3G

September News in 3G

We have really been busy these last few weeks!  All of us are learning the new routine and schedule, while getting accustomed to all of these books!!  So far we have done so much in each subject already and there is so much more to come.  We are ready for the challenge though!

Math:  we are reviewing some skills from second grade and learning to take notes in class.  We are halfway through chapter 1 and have learned place value, comparing numbers, and rounding so far, and will continue with money.

Religion:  we are learning more about how to be like the disciples of Jesus.  We will continue this through stories, actions, and crafts.  There are many vocabulary words in third grade and a lot more to learn!

Social Studies:  Both third grades have Mrs. G for Social Studies, and we are just about finished with our first chapter.  We are exploring different communities around the world and comparing them to our own.  So far, we have "been to" El Paso , TX--Astoria, OR--Wilmington, NC--Denver, CO, and are about to "travel" to Timbuktu!  We have heard many vocabulary words and are learning to write definitions for these words.  Perfecting our map skills and understanding geography will be a big part of this course.

Language Arts:  We had our first spelling test already and are in lesson 2!  We have read two stories in literature and discussed summary, characterization, and context clues.  In grammar, we are learning how to write proper sentences and knowing the difference between subject and predicate.  This will continue into the next couple of weeks.  We work on our handwriting each day across all subject areas because cursive is coming soon!  In phonics, we are reviewing letter sounds, consonants, and short and long vowel sounds.

There is lots more news to come, so check back next month!  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
