Home Students Classroom Pages Grade 3 - Mrs. Goltsov November News

November News

We are getting caught up again after this crazy weather we've been having!  The students enjoyed returning to school to share their power outage adventures!

Subtraction continues to be the focus in Math throughout most of November.  Working with larger numbers, subtracting across zeros, and word problems will be the main focus.  We continue to play games to reinforce the basic skills.  Keep practicing at home as well!  There are some fantastic websites to visit that will help with this.

We are learning about immigrants in Social Studies.  Discussions and readings center around reasons why they came and what it took to get here.  We are looking at maps to find the various countries that our ancestors came from and sharing stories that were told to us about our relatives.  We had an activity where we wrote a letter to a friend from our native country and told them about our travels to America. We will be talking about the first Thanksgiving as well.  Our bulletin board shows what we are thankful for! Come and check out this beautiful display!

We have just started Pronouns in English.  The goal is to understand that we can use these little words in our writing too!  We have concentrated on nouns and verbs until now.  We are learning to make our journals and creative writing more interesting.  Our mobile book reports our hanging around the room and are amazing!  The children really did a wonderful job!  Our next book report will be due mid-December, and I will send more information soon.

Just a few reminders this month:

Report cards are being sent out on the 10th.  Conferences are scheduled for the 22nd.  I will send a reminder notice of your time.  Please contact me if you need to change your time.

Wednesday Nov. 23rd is a half day.  There is a prayer service that day, as well as crazy sock day.

The saint project for Sr. Elizabeth is due Dec. 6th.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
