Dec 2011
Winter Highlights
The upcoming month lends itself to many exciting writing activities. We will be writing letters to characters in stories we are reading. We will write letters to Santa explaining to him why we would make good elves. We will also write a letter to him explaining why we think we deserve to be put on his "good list." We will write about what gift we would have given baby Jesus if we had visited him.
Lots of interesting things will be going on in Science as well. Mrs. Labrecque will be bringing in lots of rocks in for the classes to examine with magnifying glasses. We will spend lots of time comparing and conrasting the different varieties of rocks. We will learn about the process of weathering by shaking various rocks vigorously to observe how different rocks wear down at different rates. We will also explore the different types of soil. We will use sifters to determine which soils are better suited for planting based on their ability to hold water. We will also demonstrate the effects of erosion.
We will continue to work on multiplication in math. We will have the opportunity to play lots of games in class to help us learn our multiplication facts. We will be visiting multiplication.com in the mornings to work on our facts as well.
In religion, we are discussing how we can prepare for the coming of Christ during the Advent season. We are anxiously awaiting December 6th so that we can come to school dressed as our favorite saint. We are illustrating how Christmas is a season for giving as we prepare to make gifts for our pre kindergarten buddies and assist with projects. Our next chapter discusses the marks of our Catholic faith. We will continue to visit our textbook's web site, webelieveweb.com for extra games and activities.
