March News

Welcome back to school.  Although our weather was not the best during our February break, we have had a few beautiful days that have given us a little Spring fever.  However, we still have a lot to cover in third grade.  We will be moving on to adverbs in English.  When, where, and how something is done will be investigated.  We're going on to measurement in both customary and metric units in the next month, as well as reinforcing skills in multiplication and division. Mrs. T. and Mrs. G. will begin new chapters in science and social studies.

Our contribution to the auction is nearly finished.  You'll love what you see.  Thanks to our talented mother volunteers, we have a fine product to bid on.

Father Aggie will be visiting our class on March 10.  We are also leading the Stations of the Cross on Friday morning, March 12, and we would love for you to join in prayer with us.

Have you heard about our Eno Boards?  We're starting slowly, but soon we will be able to do some cool, interactive lessons daily.  Not only is this a new learning tool for us, but the teacher needs a good tutorial in this innovative approach to curriculum.  We (students and teacher) are very excited.

January News

Welcome to 2010.  We have been working very hard since coming back from vacation.  Luckily, we have had no major absentees.  We are going to be covering many new skills in the next month. Moreover, we continue to enjoy Sister Elizabeth's and Senora's visits.

In math, we are doing more with multiplication and division.  It won't be long before we introduce remainders and more complex division problems.  In English, we are moving on to a more in-depth study of verbs (action, being, regular, irregular, and helping). Mrs T. and Mrs. G. are working on the science and social studies part of our curriculum.  Our reading stories are featuring folk tales from different countries.

December News

2009-10-15_Recess_001December 4, 2009.

Christmas is almost here.  We are excited about our shopping today from 12:45 to 1:30.  Wonderful gifts will be had for all.  Moreover, in the spirit of giving, we will be doing our outreach for Meals on Wheels on Monday, December 7.  Some moms will help with the craft we send to these homebound elderly.

On December 10, be sure to come and see the Christmas program in the church at 10:00.  You'll be in for a fantastic holiday treat.  Mrs. Polcari has worked magic and you will see amazing talent.

Academically, we've been in Christmas rush mode.  We're accomplishing a lot.  In Math, we're doing multiplication facts along with division related to the tables we know.  These fact families give us four equations that are easy to recognize.   We're coming up with great adjectives to describe nouns and using them in sentences.  We'll be learning about other types of adjectives in English class in the next couple of weeks.  We had a little French, and now Mrs. Ternan is introducing us to some great poetry.  We like changing for Science and Social Studies.  Have you checked out Spelling City?  We can study for our weekly tests by playing games.  Wow!  Finally, we've read some heartwarming stories in Reading and worked on vocabulary and phonics skills.

Our book report for December will be a Christmas story.  It will be due on December 21.  A paper with requirements will be sent home shortly.  We plan on working with our buddies in KH on December 11. We'll conclude our class Christmas celebration with a joint craft and party with 3G on Monday, December 21.  What fun!

It is a half day on December 23; then we are off for our Christmas break.  We wish everyone a blessed and joyous holiday season.  May the peace of Christ be showered on all.  A new message will be posted when we return in January.
