February NewsAs the sounds of soft music fill the classroom, the lights fade to darkness and a classroom full of eyes come to a close, our day begins at 8:50 with ten minutes of meditation. As we all know life can be stressful, not only for adults but for children as well. As the movie continues, we forget about the rest of the world around us , even if, it's just for a moment. This technique energizes our day and the children love it! Currently in Ms. Cate's class we are using our minds during meditation to jump into "The Wonderful World of Fantasy!" Will dragons fly? Do fairies really exist? How do leprechaun's hide treasure inside a rainbow? If you could travel back in time or into the future, where would you go? These are types of fantasy examples that will spark ideas to unleash your child's creativity in developing a Fantasy book. As we look back at last month our 5th Grades learned how to edit paragraphs. They also learned the fine art of exaggeration. Some so well, they have almost convinced me that English should be taught in school all year long.... even over winter and spring vacations as extra credit!!!! January was a full month of tying a complete project together for the 6th Grade. This past month we learned how to create outlines. From our outlines we learned how to organize, create a research paper, and put together bibliographies, as well as learning how to edit paragraphs. The students did an excellent job in researching their various countries. February is such a short month and is flying by already. Soon we will have winter break and spring will be around the corner. Even though the Ground Hog says there will be another six weeks of winter, lets hope he/ she is mistaken and we can enjoy an early spring. Happy Valentine's Day, Ms. Cate
