St. Christopher School

What an interesting winter we are having this year. You can thank a "La Nina" year for that.  Watch out, next year could be "normal".  We are getting a lot of work done because it has not been interrupted by snow days like last year, an "El Nino" year.

Catholic School's Week is still in process and so far so good.  We are looking forward to spending time with our buddies in 2W.  Unfortunately Mrs. Walley will not be able th join us due to her recent accident.  She is doing better and is at home healing.  5M students wrote a story for their buddy and wiil be giving them on PJ day which is Friday.  And to cap it all off there will be skating on Monday, February 6.  We will be leaving at 9:30 and arriving back about 12:30 for lunch.

The students have finished a chapter about plants, photosyntesis, tropisms, parts of flowers, and seeds.  We are still growing some seeds to see if the way they are planted affects the roots and stems.  We are also learning about how the sun affects the direction in which the leaves face (phototropism). Next the fifth grade will be learning about the environments that plants and animals live in.  They will learn about the tundra, taiga, deciduous forest, rainforest, grassland, desert, and ocean biomes.  They will have a lengthy project to do.  It is not hard but they learn a lot about the organisms in these biomes.  The directions are HERE . Due to some unforeseen circumstances we are a little behind in our Science so I am extending the project one week.  It will now be due on March 16.  Thanks for your understanding.

On Valentine's Day the students will exchange cards during the day.  I will send home a list next week of the students in 5M.  There will not be a party, just decorating a lunchbag and exchanging cards. 

Don't forget about spellingcity.com to help with Spelling.  We will be doing lesson 23 through 30.  Speaking of spelling Tucker MacLellan in 5M did an awesome job in the Spelling Bee.  He came in second.  That is a great accomplishment for him and Michael Meads the winner of the Spelling Bee.

Lent begins on February 22.  Mass will be at 9:15 and we hope that you will be able to join the children.  5M will be leading the Stations of the Cross on Friday February 24 at 2:15 and we hope that you will be able to join us for those also.
