6E October News

The start of fall is a favorite time for many of us.  We are back to school and getting into the swing of things.  God paints a glorious array of colors on the trees, and the weather has been fabulous.

Already in one short month we have two math chapters under our belts.  We finished place value, adding, subtracting, and multiplication.  October brings a division chapter.  We will divide whole numbers; sometimes we will have a remainder, and sometimes we won’t.  We will learn how to get rid of a remainder by adding a decimal and zeros, and we will also learn how to turn that remainder into a fraction.  There will be single digits, double digits, and decimals in the divisor.  You should see math homework Monday through Thursday.

During Religion, we study the Old Testament.  We will read about Noah and his covenant with God.  We will study the Patriarchs, starting with Abraham, the Father of God’s people.  Along with our weekly Religion chapter, we also study the Rosary for the month of October.  We will study the Mysteries of the Rosary:  Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Light.  We will memorize and take quizzes on each mystery.  The mysteries can be found on page 327 of the Religion book.

Please continue using www.spellingcity.com to study weekly spelling words if the book is forgotten.  We do have a weekly Friday Spelling test.

We will continue to read an excerpt from our Literature book weekly.  Literature tests are every Friday.  Our genre for our October Book Report is mystery.  Students will need to choose a book and have it approved by October 5th.  The book needs to be ready by the 28th.  We do all book reports in class.
