November News from 6W

The first snow and its aftermath are now behind us, and we look forward to a new month with gratitude that all is back to normal.

Thank you to the 6W parents who sent in treats and supplies for the rescheduled Halloween Party.  We had a great time!

Student Council elections were held on November 8th.  We have nineteen new members to promote “Spirit and Service” to St. Christopher School.  Congratulations to all who participated.  The campaign posters, speeches, and press conferences were outstanding.  Great Job!

While the voting was going on in the 6W polling place, students in both grades made flags for their project state or country.

Grade Six will continue to study the history of Western Europe.  They will be making castles from the Middle Ages created by recycled materials brought from home.  Each team of four students will have sixty minutes to assemble their masterpiece.

Grade Five is now studying the Age of Exploration in Social Studies.  This is a great chance to practice their map skills.

Students in 6W are currently working on book reports on the adventure or mystery books read in October.  They are creating an eight frame “Sunday comic strip” that will illustrate one element of the plot of their story.  Be sure to check them out on Parent-Teacher Conference Day on November 22nd

Students are reading a biography or autobiography for the November book.  We have many fine choices in our school library.

Students will begin to make Jesse Trees this month.  This annual 6W tradition transforms the classroom into a Christmas forest in December.  This project is done at home with the help of all members of the family.  Students create ornaments with symbols to represent all the people in the family of Jesus.  Directions will be sent home for a parent signature next week.

Many thanks to Karen Sedlar who has answered the call to be 6W’s Room Mother.  She will be sending e-mails throughout the year about items that need your attention.  We will be needing help with the sixth grade auction project in the spring.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our St. Christopher School families.  I am so very thankful to be a part of this community.
