January News 2012
Welcome 2012 ~ Happy New Year to all! Here is the latest information from the Computer Lab…
1st Grade – We completed the Polar Express project and Snowflake ornament. They did a great job with both projects using KidPix Deluxe and I’m very proud of the work we accomplished in December. In January, first grade will begin the Very Hungry Caterpillar unit. This unit consists of three parts related to the three stages of a butterfly’s life, and they will create projects in connection with this Eric Carle story.
2nd Grade – Students created an acrostic poem with their names, and added clipart and animations to reflect on their likes and personalities. In the coming weeks, students will learn how to export the KidPix file to a JPG file, and then record their poem using Garage Band. They will learn how to create a PowerPoint slide using the JPG picture and audio file they created, and I will create a movie of all the students work in iMovie.
3rd Grade – The students continue to work on practicing keyboarding skills, while they continue to practice using a word processing software commands (New Doc, Save As, etc.). The students will continue with the typing program through January to enhance their keyboarding skills. Towards the end of the month, the students will be introduced to PowerPoint to prepare them for the upcoming project in February.
4th Grade – Students in 4th grade will continue with the States project through January. They will learn how to create a presentation from scratch in PowerPoint and learn the basic commands in the program. Prior to Christmas break, students conducted research using the internet, as well as using books from our school library.
5th Grade - Prior to Christmas break, students conducted research using the internet for our Planet project. They will learn how to create a presentation from scratch in PowerPoint and learn more advanced commands in the program (slide transitions, animations, etc).
6th Grade – The groups have been assigned for the Technology/Weather Project and they are working together to prepare for their video productions. Each group will create a PowerPoint presentation to practice more advance commands in PowerPoint, but they will learn how to edit videos using iMovie to create a video production of a News/Weather broadcast.
