February
Will the groundhog 'Puxatawney Phil' see his shadow? Will Spring come early? These are fun questions to answer as we begin the month of February. We will experiment with shadows inside and out while observing light and measuring length.
We then will jump right in to the theme of the prehistoric reptiles...DINOSAURS!! Students always get excited taking a journey into the past learning facts about them and love sharing what they already know! They will become familiar with the types of dinosaurs and categorize them into 3 time periods. There is a listening adventure which will take them on a 'time machine' back in time as they travel with a proffessor and hear his experiences with the dinosaurs. This is a good dinner conversation topic! In science each student will have the oportunity to become a paleontologist!!
The character trait this month is: Virtue, which means demonstrating honesty and making choices that are right. We will relate this to our 16th president, 'Honest Abe', as he is remembered. We will be in school on President's Day and will take the day to learn about presidents...past, present and future.
Our class will be celebrating Valentine's Day with a special snack on February 14th. Part of the excitement is giving cards to classmates. It is best if they sign their name on the card and leave the envelope blank. It makes delivery easier! It is also a dress down day to wear red or pink, which is the colors of Love this month!
It is a busy month starting off with Catholic School Week. Each day an activity is planned with the school. To end the week, pajama day and a movie with our 4th grade buddies will be the highlight! We are thankful for St. Christopher School and Parish. It is a reminder to us for the gifts and opportunities that both students and staff have being members of St. Christopher's!
