September News

Welcome to Kindergarten!  September is a month of making new friends and the beginning of a year full of learning!

The curriculum in Kindergarten includes all subject areas.  Most units are based on a monthly time frame.  For the month of September, the areas of study are as follows:  Language Arts: Phonics, Letter of the Week (A,B,C,D for this month) Journal writing, and Handwriting.

Math: Progress in Mathematics. The unit focusing on positions and classification

Religion: I Am Special text. God Made Me Special.  The character trait for this month is: attentiveness

 Social Studies: Community Helpers

 Science: Trees and Apples

Each week the students will participate in Special: Library, Music, Spanish, Phys Ed and Visual Arts (alternatin weeks with KN) Computer instruction begins in January.

Our Kindergarten curriculum is well rounded and for this reason no homework is given. However, each month there will be a Family Fun activity to be completed at home together and sent back to school on the date given. This months project is: Time to Shine.  How creative can you be? Hope you have fun together!

As part of a classroom/home enrichment activity our class has a Home Journal Buddy Kit.  The class will soon give the Buddy a name and each student will have a weekend to take it home to enjoy.  There is a journal notebook to write all the fun activities Buddy did or went with your family over the weekend.  On Monday, they will share their experiences!!

Sharing is important part of developing social skills. Your child is asked to in choose 1 item that relates to the theme or the letter of the week that fits inside their backpack. Thursday is the girls and Fridays is the boys.

We ask that you please put your child's name on all their belongings. It is very helpful to  us to make sure they have the right belongings and with the uniform it all looks the same and about the same size! It also gets a little harder when the cold weather comes!!

I am very pleased  to be teaching your child at St. Christopher School. I believe communication is important between teacher and parent. Each month classroom news will be posted to keep you updated on currents events.  If for any reason you need to reach me, my e-mail is: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Parent Information Night is on Monday, September 12th @ 6:45. We hope to see you then!
