December News
The Holiday Season is here! In Kindergarten we will explore the 'Senses of the Season"! It is a wonderful time of the year for children to experience the many sights, sounds, smells, tastes and touches during the festivities they are celebrating. To begin, we will learn about the true meaning of Christmas and Advent. We will make an advent wreath to remind each week to prepare for the blessed event. A fun class activity is the Secret Sense Bag. Each student is asked to prepare a their bag at home, choosing a holiday item and writing clues to read to the class for them to guess. It is a perfect introduction to the theme! A taste test is planned to experience sweet, salty and sour. Which will be the favorite? Listening for sounds all around is a quiet acivity which heightens their awareness of everyday noises. Loud and soft is experimented and enjoyed through christmas music and instruments. Jars with holiday and everyday scents provides an experience to explore smells. As a grand finale and to celebrate the season, the class will create a gingerbread house at the party!
The character trait for December is Generosity which is perfect for this time of year. It teaches that is more important to give than to recieve. An optional Kindergarten project we are having is a GIVING TREE. During the season we are collecting hats and mittens which we will donate to the Nashua Children's Home for those less fortunate who greatly appreciate the gifts. For this activity, I ask that it is a family affair. If your child could be responsible to help in the home doing a task in some small way and in return they can earn money to buy a pair of mittens or hat to give. Please send them into the class by Monday, December 19th, and I will deliver them to the Home. As always, thank your for Your Generosity!
