January Update

We've had a busy beginning of the New Year!  It started with a visit from Father Paul and our first Spanish class with Senora B on January 3rd and we haven’t stopped!  On January 4th, we had a visit from Miss Mary, a retired kindergarten teacher and friend of Mrs. Baker’s.  She shared a fun story about snowmen with us, “Snowmen at Night”.  I bet you didn’t know snowmen have snowball fights, drink ice-cold cocoa, and make snow angels … while we are sleeping!  Miss Mary taught us all a snow song, played a game to help us recognize the sound the letter s makes and taught us a fingerplay using the snowmen she bought for each child.  What a great afternoon!

computersscarlettThis Monday we had our first computer class!  Everyone had a lot of fun spending half an hour in the computer room learning how to use pbskids.org. We will continue using this website for the rest of the month as the children get comfortable manipulating the mouse and learning the games.  As one group was using the computers another was in our class with Mrs. Baker decorating their snowmen that are displayed outside our class.computersmaddison

On Friday, January 13th, we learned who Martin Luther King, Jr. was and why we celebrate his birthday each year.  We used green, red and yellow apples to make friendship applesauce.  Like the different apples we used, we learned that all people are different on the outside and all the same on the inside, just like all apples.  As you can see from the pictures, peeling the apples was alot of fun!
