NEW! Thank You – Oh my goodness! Thank you to EVERYONE for the amazing support of our Calendar Raffle! We not only met our goal of 2,000 tickets sold, we went over! Our total sales were 2,239 tickets…with all proceeds staying right here at St. Chris to benefit our amazing students! Special thanks go to our top selling homerooms….KB, 3B, and 4D….and our top sellers Parker French, Charlotte Batchelder, and Owen Torosian…we will have special prizes for each! Finally, we are most grateful to Ellen Valade who once again counted each and every one of those 2,239 tickets!

 

We also want to thank everyone for their donations to our Brown Bag collection for Corpus Christi! Our donations totaled 783.1 pounds!

 

 

NEW! Crazy Mrs. Clarke/Spirit Day -- By beating our school goal, we earned our Crazy Mrs. Clarke/Spirit Day, which has been scheduled for Friday, October 19! All students are invited to wear their spirit wear (or blue and white) that day instead of the usual uniforms. Spirit wear includes the Husky Pride Spirit shirts, or cross country/basketball/drama/lego/etc shirts. Blue and/or white shirts are also welcome! Jeans are permitted for the day, too!

THIS WEEK! Ski Club Info Meeting 10/4 and Registration is Open!  Ski Club is open to skiers in Grades 3-6, runs for 5 weeks and will start-up on Friday, January 4th. We will have a meeting on Thursday, October 4th at 6:30pm in 1M.  If you are thinking about joining this year, please plan to attend the meeting.  Details about passes, transportation, lessons, volunteering, etc will be discussed.  The School Program Director from Crotched Mountain will also be joining us.  Please contact Tara Canaway at [email protected] if you are interested in joining and unable to attend the meeting.

 

To register, purchase your passes on the Crotched Mountain website. Our club registration deadline is November 15th. Passes, equipment and lesson prices will go up after registration closes. An awesome benefit this year: kids get season passes valid at all 7 Peak resorts with their ski club pass!!!

DEADLINE THIS WEEK! Family Roster/Directory -- We are once again doing our Family Roster/Directory! This directory will include student and parent names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.

 

Because of privacy laws, however, it is very important that we receive your permission to print your family's contact information on this directory. We understand that some people are hesitant to share their private information, and we respect that choice.

 

To have your information listed on the roster, please complete the form located at https://tinyurl.com/StChrisRoster2018 by THIS Friday, October 5. In the interest of timeliness, information returned after that date will not be included on the Roster. Please note that although we are collecting the roster information electronically, it will be distributed in print form only. We will NOT post the information on the school website.

 

 

NEXT WEEK! October No School & Early Release – No school on Monday, October 8 in observance of Columbus Day! AND, we have an Early Release on Friday, October 12! Students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on the 12th and there will be no After Care. All teachers will be attending a professional development workshop.

 

 

NEW! St. Chris Scarecrow – We are thrilled to be taking part in the Downtown Nashua’s Scarecrow contest again this year! Our scarecrow features overalls, a blue plaid shirt, and lots of St. Chris gear! The winner of the contest will be determined by the number of votes cast online…the voting has begun HERE and will continue through Friday, October 12th! Voters are allowed to cast one vote every 24 hours with each vote counting as one point. To earn five bonus points, voters may take a selfie with the scarecrow and post it on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #downtownscarecrows and it will earn our scarecrow 5 bonus points! (Don’t forget….the privacy settings of that post need to be set to public so the judges are able to view the picture and include the bonus points while tallying up the votes!)

 

 

NEW! STEM Committee Meeting -- The incorporation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is an important part of the academic program here at St. Chris! We love exploring new areas and helping our kids to think and learn like scientists! Each year, our STEM Committee takes on new projects to further this integration of STEM into the life of the school, as well as planning the annual STEM Day and Science Fair in March. If you would like to be part of this exciting effort, please join us at our first STEM Committee meeting on Monday, October 15 at 6:30 PM in the school library! Used Uniforms – Our Used Uniform closets are bursting at the seams! All parents are welcome to come in and look through the clothing during school hours. All clothing is in good condition, has been laundered and is free! To check out the selection, please come to the front desk and check in first!

 

 

THIS WEEK! Popcorn is Back! All students are invited to purchase popcorn for snack starting THIS Friday, October 5! Each bag of freshly popped popcorn is 50¢! Thank you to our parent volunteers for their popping expertise.

 

 

NEW! Staff/Faculty Kudos – Each month, Mrs. Clarke and the Advancement team internally recognize a staff and faculty member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty…but we thought a few public “pats on the back” are in order, too! September’s Staff “Yay” award went to Mrs. Sheehan for work in the building over the summer and October’s Staff “Yay” award went to Ms. Bedard for her new lacrosse class and Coach Levesque for his awesome school web page! Great job and thank you!!

 

 

Lifetouch Photos – Lifetouch will be here to take our school photos on Wednesday, October 17. Students should wear their uniforms that day. More information will be distributed in the paper News.

 

 

NEW! Art Help Needed – As many of you know, Mrs. Fessenden is out on maternity leave until after Thanksgiving. We have been so fortunate that Marnie Gordon has stepped in over the last month to cover our Art classes (thank you, Marnie!), but she is unable to continue this commitment through November. Therefore, we are looking for a little short-term help! Potential teachers do not need to have a degree in Art, but must be available to cover Art classes on Wednesday afternoons, and all day Thursday and Friday. A small stipend is available. NEW! Teacher Substitutes NeededWe are looking to add qualified people to our teacher substitute list! Interested individuals must have a college degree and a willingness to take full responsibility for a classroom for the day and follow the teacher’s plans. Substitutes are occasionally prearranged, but most often the phone call request will come very early in the morning (5:00 AM is not unheard of!) when a teacher wakes up and discovers she is ill. Substitutes are paid a small stipend for the day’s work. Candidates should submit a resume and letter of interest to Mrs. Clarke at [email protected] .

 

 

Halloween Free Dress – Wednesday, October 31 will be a booooo-tiful day here at St. Chris as our kids dress in their favorite orange, black, and white Free Dress outfits! Please keep our Free Dress rules in mind when picking out an outfit!

NEW! Chess and Games ClubThe St. Christopher Chess and Games club will start on Friday, October 12th from 7:50 AM to 8:30 AM in 5M on the 2nd floor. (Children should enter through the Before Care doors.) The club is for grades 1 to 6. Kids learn to play basic Chess and some board games. The Chess club will be held every Friday at the same time on school days. There will be no Chess club on school holidays or when the school is canceled for weather or other reasons.

 

Kids do not need know how to play to join the club and will pick up the game after a few days. Parents are welcome to join.

Hot Lunch Ordering – Ordering for November’s Hot Lunch will run through Monday, October 15 on Boonli.com. Don’t forget that all orders must be in by midnight on the 15th…no late orders can be accepted!

 

 

PreK Parent Lunch – PreK parents should mark their calendar now for the October 19 PreK Take Your Parent to Lunch event in the Church Hall at noon! Our littlest students will put on a very short performance and then will share a pizza lunch with you!  The event lasts approximately one hour. PreK parents should return the RSVP form distributed in their child’s home folder as soon as possible!

 

 

Kindergarten Parent Lunch – Kindergarten parents will be treated to their own Take Your Parent to Lunch program on Friday, October 26 at noon! Add it to your calendar!

 

 

THIS WEEK!! Notify System Test – As we did last year, we will be doing a test run of our Notify system! This is one of the methods we use for sending out mass communications, including robocalls, text messages and emails. We will be using this system during the year to notify you of weather-related school closings, as well as any emergency information we might need to get out in a timely manner. On Friday, October 5, sometime after 9:00 AM, we will send out a test message to all parents using all forms of communication.  Therefore, you should expect to receive several versions of this test message, both through your phone(s) and email. If you do NOT receive the messages, please contact us at [email protected] .

 

 

Box Tops for Education-- Calling all Box Tops! Now's the time to bring in the Box Tops your family's been collecting all summer long! Your Box Tops matter! The collection bin is next to the Computer Room on the 2nd floor.

 

 

Vocation Day – Our Faith Outreach Committee is excited to announce that our annual Vocation Day will take place on Tuesday, October 23 and we will be welcoming over 20 special guests! This wonderful day gathers priests, sisters, deacons, and lay ministers together to share a mass with our students, attend a casual breakfast reception, and then visit with the students in their classrooms. Mass will take place at 9:15 AM and everyone is welcome to attend it and the breakfast reception. NEW! Dismissal Reminder – Please be sure to keep your child/children close to you in the back parking lot at dismissal time. Once you have gathered your child/children, please go directly to your car so that the gathering area is clear. Our teachers are in the parking lots to help keep the kids safe, but with the commotion from kids running around the area, they are having a hard time making sure that all children are being released to the appropriate person. Help us keep our kids safe!

In addition, if possible, please be sure that your child knows where he or she should go at dismissal time…After Care, Miss Linda’s, walker, bus, parking lots, etc. Thanks!

Nashua Catholic Mother/Son Bowling -- Nashua Catholic is hosting Mother/Son Bowling on October 13th from 6:00-9:00 PM  at Merrimack Ten Pin in Merrimack, NH would like to extend the invite to the boys and their mothers in 5th and 6th grade at St. Chris! This community-building evening includes pizza, beverage, and ice cream sundae bar as well as 2 hours of glow bowling (with shoe rental) with LED lights and sports/music videos. Junior Group News – Teen Group is going to join Junior Group for a movie night! We’ll be watching and discussing Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark at the Pennell Center on Sunday. Because of the movie’s run time, we’ll be meeting from 5-8pm instead of the usual 6-8pm. Pizza and popcorn will be provided. All 6th-12th graders are welcome to join us.

 

Kid Group News – What do you do when you feel mad? Sad? Scared? We’ll be talking about that at Kid Group this week. See you in the Pennell Center on Saturday, Oct. 6th from 5-7pm. All 3rd-5th graders are welcome to join us.
